CIENEGA ROAD BRIDGE AT BIRD CREEK

September 15, 2009

Located in the heart of San Benito County, the Don Chapin Company has begun construction on the Cienega Road Bridge at Bird Creek. The bridge will serve as a crossing at Bird Creek to facilitate the new future Cienega Road Realignment Project.

This project includes many aspects of work including demolition of existing features, excavating for bridge foundations, forming and pouring bridge foundations and placement of rock rip-rap in and around Bird Creek. The main component of this project is placing and securing the Con Span Bridge System. This bridge system is made up from precast concrete arch sections spanning the creek bed. These sections are approximately 5’ wide x 25’ long. When placed together, these heavy sections will form the new bridge structure. At each end of the bridge, large precast wing walls will be placed to direct the flow of water under the new structure. After the bridge components are placed and secured, then a select backfill is placed and compacted around and over the new bridge.
